What Readers Are Saying
Here is what early readers are saying about Smarter Retirement Planning.
I’ve read a lot of financial books over the years, and most of them focus on investments, returns, or “beating the market.” This one does something different — and more important. Smarter Retirement Planning doesn’t try to turn you into a stock picker. It teaches you how to think. The biggest shift this book creates is moving from “hope and react” to “plan and process.” Instead of chasing performance, it walks you through how advisors actually approach retirement: mapping income over time, understanding withdrawal sequencing, documenting your investment decisions, and planning for risk before it shows up. The sections on retirement income planning and behavioral mistakes are especially strong. The real-life examples make it clear how easy it is to save well and still run into trouble later if you don’t have a structured spending plan. That alone is worth the read. What I appreciated most was the tone. It’s calm, practical, and grounded in real-world experience — not hype. No scare tactics. No magic formulas. Just clear thinking and actionable structure. If you’re a DIY investor, pre-retiree, or someone who has saved well but isn’t fully confident about turning savings into sustainable income, this book will help you see your finances differently. It won’t promise you overnight wealth. It will give you clarity. And clarity is powerful. Highly recommend.

This book is a must read if you are planning to navigate your retirement on your own. As for me, that is a path I would not consider taking --- however, this book is written in a way that even a novice can understand all of the pieces that need to be taken into consideration. It is likely that after reading this, you may have a change of heart and decide you would rather work with a financial advisor --- but now you will be armed with knowledge to have an educated conversation with them on the decisions being made.
